Vármező (Romanian: Câmpu Cetăţii, German: Burgfeld) is a village in Romania, Maros shire. It belongs to Nyárádremete administratively. It lays to the North-East from Marosvásárhely, at the confluence of the rivers Kisnyárád (or Kiság) and Nagynyárád (Nagyág, or Vármezőpataka). It name was given after the fort stood on the hill above the village on the hill of Várhegy.
Below Várhegy count Bornemissza József got a chapel put in the beginning of the XVII. Century which still stodd in 1817, but Orbán Balázs could see only its ruins. In 1910 it had no population. Until the Treaty of Trianon it belonged to Maros-Torda county. In 1992 out of its 470 inhabitants 458 had Hungarian and 12 had Romanian origins.
Anyone who has been to the village of Vármező can understand what these words cover. The place is truly the fruit of the alliance of nature and mankind; still, it keeps such typical Transylvanian values as hospitality and the respect of the traditions.
The village and its surroundings are popular goals to all those who like to wander in the nature, and fond of remembering these experiences while watching the sun set, accompanied by a delicious nomadic foods and specialities.
Neither those who are interested in the folklore, the traditions, or the craftsmanship of the folk will be disappointed. And if you want to refresh yourself the salty lakes of Szováta are only 15 kilometres away.
The yurts of high standard will assure you of your comfort; you will leave full of new experiences.
Be a part of this gift. Vármező awaits you!
