Kovászna

Covasna (Hungarian: Kovászna, German: Kowasna) is a town in Covasna county, Transylvania, Romania, at an altitude of 550-600 m.

The city is famous for its mineral water, being known as the "town of 1,000 mineral springs". Covasna's name is derived from the Slavic word Cvaz, meaning sour, referring to the taste of its mineral waters.

As of 2004, the census showed 11,204 inhabitants. About two-thirds of the population are ethnic Hungarians.

History

  • 1952 - Covasna became town.
